Reports From Turkey Suggest Newcastle Are in Advanced Talks to Sign Porto Striker Vincent Aboubakar

Newcastle United are understood to be in advanced talks with Porto as they look to make Vincent Aboubakar one of their first signings of the summer.

The Cameroon international appears set to leave Estadio do Dragao in the coming months, with Besiktas thought to be the frontrunners for his signature.

The Turkish champions signed Aboubakar on a season-long loan deal 12 months ago and the forward played an important role in their championship winning campaign, as he scored 19 goals in 38 games.

Besiktas were understood to be close to reaching an agreement to sign the 25-year-old, however, Turkish outlet Futbol Arena, via the NUFC blog, suggest that the Magpies have launched a late bid for the striker and are in ‘advanced talks’ with his parent club.

It is claimed that the last season’s Championship winners are ready to match the €10m that Porto are asking for Aboubakar and that Besiktas have all but given up hope of competing with Newcastle due to the wealth that comes with the Magpies being back in the Premier League.

Manager Rafael Benitez is understood to be the one looking to push the transfer through and should the reports be true, Aboubakar could soon be confirmed as a Newcastle player.

The news will come as a major boost to Benitez and the board, who are facing the prospect of losing star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic who has recently failed to commit his future to the club.

The Magpies are also thought to the closing in on Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham on a season long loan, however, Aboubakar would provide some much-needed experience to Newcastle’s forward line, as the club prepare for life back in England’s top flight where they will host Tottenham on the opening day of the season.
